Code: OPL/19/164 Using Internal School Performance Data

External school performance data provides a snapshot of certain pupils’ achievements and suggests areas for improvement but it is internal school performance data that allows governing boards to hold the school to account for all pupils’ achievements, throughout an academic year, in real time. While inspectors will not look at non statutory internal progress and attainment data they will consider the actions taken by the school in response to their internal data. his course builds on the knowledge, skills and understanding of Using External School Performance Data. This practical course, using either your own school’s information or information supplied, will develop confidence in identifying and planning for improvement, monitoring outcomes for all pupils and evaluating the effectiveness of the governing board’s plans. It will cover key terminology, essential questions and show how primary governors can use pupil data to support a dynamic system of school improvement. This training is free to governors who's school subscribe to Governor Training, otherwise the cost is £150 per governor

Code: OPL/19/156 The Complaints Process- the governors’ role

All schools must have procedures for dealing with complaints and these should be published on the school’s website. Complaints can engender emotion and stress which may lead to confusion over roles, timings, stages and practicalities. As complaints must be handled in line with your procedures, it is essential that these are up to date, fit for purpose and understood by both governors and senior leaders. The Department for Education has recently produced new guidance and model policies around this important area and these are used to inform this training. By considering how complaints should be handled before you receive one, you will be better equipped to confirm your policy is fit for purpose; have confidence that you are using the correct policy at the correct stage; ensure you are best equipped to resolve complaints as quickly as possible and know that you are meeting your statutory responsibilities without distracting the school from its core work of improving outcomes for all pupils. This training is free to governors whose school subscribe to Governor Training, otherwise the cost is £550 per governor.
