Code: OPL/19/155 The Complaints Process- the governors’ role

All schools must have procedures for dealing with complaints and these should be published on the school’s website. Complaints can engender emotion and stress which may lead to confusion over roles, timings, stages and practicalities. As complaints must be handled in line with your procedures, it is essential that these are up to date, fit for purpose and understood by both governors and senior leaders. The Department for Education has recently produced new guidance and model policies around this important area and these are used to inform this training. By considering how complaints should be handled before you receive one, you will be better equipped to confirm your policy is fit for purpose; have confidence that you are using the correct policy at the correct stage; ensure you are best equipped to resolve complaints as quickly as possible and know that you are meeting your statutory responsibilities without distracting the school from its core work of improving outcomes for all pupils. This training is free to governors whose school subscribe to Governor Training, otherwise the cost is £150 per governor.

Code: OPL/19/161 Using External School Performance Data

If governing boards are to hold their schools effectively to account for pupils’ achievement, they need to ask meaningful questions about pupil attainment and progress data. The aim of the session is to promote governors' understanding and practical use of external school data; however this is a course about school improvement, not statistics. The approach is a pragmatic look at the questions raised by our schools’ main external data sources, helping governors from primary schools to understand the terminology, identify the areas for improvement and relate data to real school performance. This training is free to governors who's school subscribe to Governor Training, otherwise the cost is £150 per governor
