This session, aimed at school leaders and governors, as well as those responsible for supporting education across Oxfordshire, will enable attendees consider the question: "What more can I do in my role to further embed the intent of the Armed Forces Covenant so that our Service children thrive?” The event aims to support all those providing and leading on the education of children of serving personnel, or veterans, to develop a deeper understanding of the life of a child with parents in the UK Armed Forces. There will be updates from a range of national speakers, some CPD on making the most of Service children’s voice and an opportunity to hear from the charity Never Such Innocence which is currently working in a number of Oxfordshire schools providing creative workshops. As an outcome of the day, attendees will be instrumental in helping us refresh the Oxfordshire’s Promise to Service children, first written in 2019 and which enables individual providers and the Council to commit and contribute to the intent of the Armed Forces Covenant. The day is being facilitated by Matt Blyton, an independent adviser with a wealth of experience of supporting this unique and special group of children. He is a former primary Headteacher, worked for many years as a Local Authority adviser and was also a consultant for the MOD supporting schools overseas. At the event, Matt will also be launching some exciting initiatives that the Council’s Learning and School Improvement service will be running next academic year. Bookings are free of charge.
