Course aim
This is a two-day training for practitioners from any Early Years Setting who are working with children who have physical disabilities and complex physical needs delivered by the SENSS Early Years Physical Disability Team.

Pre-course Information
The course will be delivered in 2 sessions Tuesday 1st October 9.15am - 2.45pm and Wednesday 9th October 9.15am - 2.45pm
£30 for first participant from each setting and £20 for second one. For safety reasons, if we go over our numbers allowed, we will only be able accept 1 participant from each setting.
2 days: Participants should attend on both days
Where possible we recommend that 2 staff from each setting attend. It would be very useful for either the child’s teacher or SENCo to come as well as the child’s key person who will be working closely with that one child.

Objectives

The course content includes:-

An introduction to a range of physical disabilities, and the effects this may
have on mobility, communication, hand function, play, self-care activities
and the implications for learning.

Working with parents: a parent’s perspective and the impact of early intervention.

The practical implications of inclusion for a child with a physical disability and additional needs: strategies, approaches
and practical intervention for staff working with these children.
